Practical Tips to 10x Your Business

Apr 16, 2024

Whether you started your own company, are leading a company, are an executive at a company, or just work at a company, there is a reason you wake up 5 days (sometimes even 6 or 7) a week, put on a suit (or your Nike Air Force 1's), and work.

Perhaps it’s personal; you want a better life for your family, a nice place to live, good food to eat, fun vacations, or even that new M-series BMW. Perhaps it’s missional; you want to build a better workplace, help others in their quality of life, or provide a product or service that betters people’s lives.

Regardless of why you work, you’re trying to accomplish something in your life.

But Something Is Not Working Right

You’re at an impasse. You’ve built a good product or service. You’ve even identified and had success in penetrating your target market. You’ve ticked all the boxes of every book by Simon Sinek, Nir Eyal, Malcolm Gladwell, and Seth Godin, but you’ve stalled; you’ve hit a wall.

No matter what you do, you can’t seem to break through that invisible ceiling limiting you from growth in your business. Like I once was (early in my start-up career), maybe you’re struggling to sleep at night, feel like your business is owning you, and maybe even added a few extra pounds from stress eating.

Or, perhaps you’re doing just fine, but the fabric of your company is beginning to tear. Chaotic work life, siloed departments, lack of unity, people problems, and stalled revenue growth are all common breakdowns within a business. These are all issues that need to be addressed.

As Gino Wickman says in his book Traction, “If you’re not happy with the current state of your company, you have three choices. You can live with it, leave it, or change it.”

Don’t Live With It or Leave It – Change It

No matter the challenges you currently face, if you’ve built a good product and have found people who want to buy it, you have all you need to build a great company (by whatever terms you define that to be). You’re just missing one key component.

There comes a point in every successful business where it can no longer be reliant on people alone, on process alone, or even on pennies alone. It requires something that brings the entire company together to work towards the same goal, together. This is where your Operating System comes into play.

In short, an operating system is the thread that pulls all the different fabrics of your business together to form a cohesive unit that functions well, feels good, and becomes much more valuable as a result of its operating structure.

It sharpens and clarifies your vision (for you AND your team), provides accountability to your team, puts key metrics that run your business in the forefront of your team, collects and distributes all the processes that make your company function repeatedly and effectively, helps your team get in healthy meeting rhythms that prioritize solving issues to move forward, and helps you set goals and objectives that move the needle in your business.

At a certain stage in every company, you can not grow or maintain operations without dealing with this. Now, if you have a solid product and people want to buy it, but you’re still experiencing the symptoms listed in the “But Something Is Not Working Right” section above, you’re probably in need of an operating system.

Change Your Business & Your Life

Developing an operating system takes time, work, and a specific skill set. This is why I developed Journey OS, a self-paced guide to implementing an operating system in your company that focuses on the following key elements:

#1 Clear Vision: Creating a vision so strong & sharp that it cuts through even bad ideas.

#2 Cohesive Team: Assessing and assembling the right team to scale the mountain.

#3 Disciplined Action: Creating an accountability system of focused and disciplined action.

These three components, implemented with our 5-step process, will have your company growing and more profitable than ever.
